A senior Palestinian official involved in the Israel-Hamas ceasefire talks has told the BBC that Qatari and Egyptian mediators have put forward a new proposal aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza.
The proposal reportedly includes a ceasefire lasting five to seven years, the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, a formal conclusion to the war, and a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza.
A high-level Hamas delegation is expected to arrive in Cairo soon for discussions on the proposal.
The previous ceasefire collapsed about a month ago after Israel resumed its military operations in Gaza. Both sides have blamed each other for the breakdown of the truce.
Israel has not yet publicly responded to the new mediation plan.
